Mani Golparvar-Fard, Ph.D.

Dr. Golparvar-Fard is a Professor and Faculty Entrepreneurial Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science (formerly the Department of Computer Science) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he also directs the RAAMAC Lab. He serves as the Director of the Engineering Faculty Leadership Forum (EFLF) program and is a co-lead of the Center on AI for the Built Environment at the Grainger College of Engineering.

He is also the co-founder and Chief Science Officer (CSO) of Reconstruct Inc., an award-winning startup recognized by the World Economic Forum and Turner Construction for its innovations in predictive visual data analytics, enabling proactive production control on construction projects.

Dr. Golparvar-Fard received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and Master of Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2010. He also holds a Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia (2006), as well as MSc and BSc degrees in Civil Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology.

Graduate Students

Juan Diego Núñez

Juan Diego is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Construction Engineering and Management and a Masters of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

Juan Diego obtained his Masters of Science in Construction Management in 2017 while holding a Fulbright Scholarship, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2010 back in his home country, Dominican Republic, at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo. In addition, he has 6 years of work experience in construction, engineering, and computer vision.

Juan Diego is currently a Research Assistant at RAAMAC, focusing on the understanding and measurement of construction production using image semantic segmentation of construction elements, and the forecasting of construction labor productivity time series using deep learning.

Yoonhwa Jung

Yoonhwa is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Construction Engineering and Management. She obtained her Masters of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Hanyang University in South Korea.

Yoonhwa is a current RAAMAC lab member, focusing on automated schedule control using machine learning techniques as well as several visualization techniques in the field of construction.

Shun-Hsiang Hsu

Shun-Hsiang is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Construction Engineering and Management and a Masters of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Shun-Hsiang obtained his MSc and BSc in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University.

Shun-Hsiang is currently a Research Assistant at RAAMAC, focusing Deep Learning in Computer Vision and Visual Inspection and Monitoring for Civil infrastructure assets. He is the founder of TryTech which offer developing full stack applications.

AmirHossein Ghodrati-Amiri

Amir is a graduate student pursuing a direct MS/Ph.D. degree in Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He obtained her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Iran.

Amir is a current RAAMAC lab member, focusing on deep learning techniques for computer vision based progress monitoring. He’s exploring the application of various forms of data for better training of these models.

Xiyu Wang

Xiyu is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She obtained her Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Xiyu’s research jointly advised by Prof. El-Gohary focuses on Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, which aim to solve real-world problems by wisely using large amount of data.

Junryu Fu

Junryu is a graduate student pursuing MS degree in Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He obtained her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois as well.

Junryu has been RAAMAC lab member since his freshman year at Illinois and he’s currently focusing deep learning techniques for computer vision based quality control.

Samin Mirshekari

Samin is a graduate student pursuing an MS degree in Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She obtained her Bachelor of Science at Sharif University of Technology in Iran.

Samin is currently working on quantity takeoff models based on BIM and blueprints and improving models for automation of quantity takeoff for better quality assurance and quality control in construction.
